The String Quartet Biennial Amsterdam (SQBA) is the first festival in the world that is entirely dedicated to our beloved genre. The NSKA is pleased that there has been a good collaboration since the first edition in January 2018.
The ProQuartet in Paris is the sister organization of the NSKA in France that focuses on the full range of chamber music, both education and the organization of concerts. From the summer of 2019, there will be a collaboration that consists of the exchange of teachers and students, both short-term courses and residencies.
Everyone has the right to music; that is why Live Music Now (LMN) brings music to people who are unable to come to the concert hall: the elderly, the sick, addicts in clinics, etc. The NSKA fully endorses this idea and is a partner of LMN.
In recent years, 1 à 2 string quartets and 1 saxophone quartet from the NSKA affiliated with LMN, each giving about 10 performances per year. From LMN they learn how to best present themselves to all these different target groups and which programming works best.
The NMF lends instruments to talented conservatory students and professionals to support them in their musical development.
As a musician you really have to do everything you can to acquire a strong position in the rich Dutch musical life and the internationally competitive market. Even if you have talent, perseverance and good guidance, that is not enough. Playing a high-quality instrument is also crucial, while that is precisely what is often lacking.
Many musicians who play in one of the NSKA quartets are supported by the NMF.
The Danel Quartet was in residence at music centre TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht for three seasons (2016-2019). As part of this residency, they supervise several young ensembles, including quartets that are also in training at the NSKA. In addition, TivoliVredenburg provides space for NSKA auditions and anniversaries.
