Recommendations from the professional field

Martijn Sanders
former director of the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam

"If it is already difficult for young instrumentalists to build a career, it is even more difficult for young string quartets. It starts with the fact that in order to really play together and build a repertoire, many hours of study and practice together have to be invested before a single note can be played in public. And where do you find the teachers and coaches who can help you with that? The NSKA has provided an answer to these questions and problems for a decade since its foundation in 2001 and has thus acquired an indispensable place in Dutch musical life. In the coming impoverishment of the Dutch artistic life, in which young artists in particular will have to absorb the blows of the coming cutbacks, we may hope that the NSKA can survive for at least another decade I hope that all those who see the importance of this will support or continue to support this institute."

Alexander Rinnooy Kan
former chairman of the Social and Economic Council

“String quartets trained in the Netherlands have been taking us on a journey to the magnificent highlights of chamber music for years. This should definitely continue.”

Aart-Jan van der Pol
director of the Dutch Violin Competitions former programmer of the Small Hall of the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam

“The Netherlands has an incredibly rich tradition of chamber music. Amateurs, professionals and audiences come together in countless concert halls and living rooms to share their passion with each other. Over the past decade, the Dutch String Quartet Academy has trained an entire generation of Dutch and foreign string quartets, who continue this tradition at the highest level and enriching.”

Eberhard Feltz
pedagogue at the Hochschule für Musik ʽHanns Eislerʼ in Berlin

“Was I since the young Streichquartette leistet, ist before the world!” Rubens, Atrium, Anima sind Quartette, who are also present at the Musikhochschule arbeiteten, but not without NSKA all the way to their international heritage."

Shmuel Ashkenazy
primarius of the former Vermeer Quartet

“In my opinion, the NSQA is one of the most important string quartet institutions.”

Menahem Pressler
pianist of the Beaux Arts Trio

“Hopefully the NSKA will be able to continue enhancing the string quartet tradition, so that Amsterdam remains a place where the finest music is created and heard.”

Evan Rothstein
